Ultimate Blogging Challenge (I Know I’m Late)

Networking Before The #DPCON12 Dinner & Dance

Yes. Yes. Yes, I KNOW!

The Ultimate Blogging Challenge (April 2012 round) started two days ago and I totally missed the start. Despite planning and best intentions April 1st went flying by in a blink.

If you’ve been reading the blog over the past fortnight you’ll know that I attended the Digital Parents Conference and live blogged it last week.

Little did I know how much that would take out of me.

Almost 4,000 words in 3 hours 15 minutes while using an iPad for the first time is exhausting.

Now I know why Annabel Candy was so under the hammer at the Problogger Training Day last October. Nonetheless a great big thanks Annabel for inspiring me to have a go ;o)

So now I’ve rested a little I’d love to share some photos and links for the awesome bloggers I met before telling you more of my plans for this Ultimate Blogging Challenge.

Rachel of Because I Said So with Sarah from Dear Baby G

I met Rachel of Because I Said So and Sarah from Dear Baby G at the #DPCON12 drinks the night before the main event. Both were genuinely lovely and very intelligent ladies!

Lani of Missy Boo, Tania, Sarah of Dear Baby G, Georgia of Parental Parody and Marissa of Beautifully Organised

Lani (Missy Boo) and Tania were great fun to get to know at the Melbourne Wine Room. Thanks ladies for a great night!

Georgia from Parental Parody spoke during the My Blog, My Story session. For someone who was so nervous her presentation was hilarious. Just as she hoped.

What can I say about Marissa of Beautifully Organised? What a champ! Not only was she a great buddy, she willingly volunteered to appear in my first video post. Anyone doing that deserves a medal!

Darren Rowse of Problogger

I finally built up the courage to say hello to Darren, the legend behind Problogger and an online idol of mine. At the Problogger event last year Darren and I were the first to arrive and despite having half an hour with the two of us waiting before anyone else got there the most I managed was a terrified hello.

Not this time!

I can reveal that the 2012 Problogger event tickets are expected to go on sale next week and the international guest will be none other than Chris Guillebeau from The Art of Non-Comformity. Don’t buy all the tickets until I have mine!

Ultimate Blogging Challenge Plans

So I’m super excited to report I will be taking part in my second Ultimate Blogging Challenge this month. It requires that I post every day during April.

Yes, it’s quite a stretch!

Knowing that I was going to be away just before the challenge started I made a editorial plan. Yes, a P.L.A.N.

The first thing I wanted to ensure was that I gave a little back to all the amazing UBC bloggers who took the time to read and comment on Better Business Better Life in January and ever since.

An email was drafted and sent to everyone asking for one challenge they would like some help with.  Naturally, their requests will be the basis of a number of posts this month.

There will also be posts focused on customer service, building your online presence and entrepreneur profiles with a bit of fun weaved through.

Don’t believe me?

Wait for my special request ready for April 18th.

I’d love to meet you and hear what you will be focusing for the Ultimate Blogging Challenge! Be sure to share in the comments below. I’ll be visiting your blog shortly!!

  1. My desire for being a part of UBC is to meet people, learn from them and also to build my traffic. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this month.

    • Hey Shawn,
Great to see you’re participating again!
It is so rewarding to read each other’s posts and learn from a wide variety of people. Adding a comment and reading what other people have written in response is also wonderful.
Best wishes with the Ultimate Blogging Challenge!
      Caylie

    • Hey Melissa,
Thanks for your encouragement! You’ve certainly aced your letter writing challenge!
I really appreciate your comment and hope you’ll be back shortly ;o)
      Cheers, Caylie

  2. Caylie, Sounds like a great conference! I’d be shy too… I often wonder how exactly going to a conference would play out for me… I’m a pretty shy person! looking forward to more posts. 🙂 I outlined my goals for this month in my first post. 🙂

    • Hey Melissa,
Given this was the second conference I’ve attended I made a concerted effort to leverage its benefits and opportunities. Things like interviews, live blogging, giving out little presents to everyone I spoke to and more.
It’s a challenge when we are shy but even small efforts are valid. At your first conference you could aim to introduce yourself to two people. That’s two new connections and you gradually get to know their connections as well. As you gain more confidence you will make your goals more challenging.
The tip I would give is to identify attendees you’d like to meet using the Twitter hashtag before the event. Start building some relationships so that when you get there you already have a couple of great buddies.
Thanks for your comment! I love your goals too!

  3. Hi Caylie, as my grandmother always said: never is too late if the happiness is too good (or sort of it, because is an spanish proverb) and you are right Darren is a living legend.

    • Hi Juan,
Thank you so much for reading and your comment!
Sounds like your grandma was one smart lady.
I look forward to reading your UBC posts.
      Cheers, Caylie

    • Hi Helen,
      It sure was.
Thanks for responding to my email too. I have a post coming up for you during the challenge.
      Best wishes,
      Caylie

  4. Glad you joined UBC. I’m sure you’ll catch up and beyond in no time at all.

It’s good your readers are contributing the topics. Talk about killing several birds with one stone!

    All the best.

    • Hi Dee!
Thank you so much for your comment. Hopefully I can provide really valuable information for my gorgeous readers who contributed topics.
Looking forward to reading your posts!
      Caylie

    • Hi Sarah,
So glad you liked the photos. It was such a fabulous event with so many amazing women (and two men). The thing I love about blogging is everyone is so inclusive and welcoming.
I doubt I will get to Blogopolis but if you’re going to Problogger’s event in October I certainly plan on being there.
      Cheers, Caylie
